Test drive : Hyundai Veloster (Under parts ) #3

This post is written by the famous korean tuner, named "Crazy tuner"

Now let's look into the under part of Veloster.

For this review, I got my Veloster put on the lift.

Nice wheels. and 215/40/18 tire. I feel like to choose 225 or 235 size.

About Brake System
Inside the wheels we can see the big brake kit developed for Veloster turbo, it has larger rotors than non-turbo Veloster. About brake pads, The thermostability is higher than that of Non-turbo. Veloster tubo has a good brake system, but not good enough for sports driving. I would like to upgrade the brake soon.

About Cooling Capacity
The inter cooler is positioned on the right in the front grill. Even though the wind guide attached on the intercooler for the better cooling, I don't think that inter cooler is good enough due to it's small size. (Intake air thermometer was indicating at high area even in high speed). In the winter season, that would be OK. but for the summer season, I hope Hyundai to improve the cooling performance of Veloster Turbo.

Exhaust and under parts

The end muffler tips are attached to rear bumper diffuser and there's a panel between the muffler tips and the end muffler to prevent a back flow of exhaust gas. Please don't remove this panel, otherwise, you will smell a fragrant exhaust gas.

The middle pipe size is 60 pie in diameters, the bigger one would be OK considering that Veloster is Turbo charged car.

Resonator is connected just below turbo charger. If you remove this big stock resonator and replace it with a small one (after market parts) just before the end muffler, you may expect the better performance without increase of booming sound.

Corrosion resistant of under parts

I am really sorry about this, why Hyundai does not changed their mindset? The handling of corrosion resistant has not been changed for the last 5 years. Design is not everything. Engine power is not everything. If Hyundai want to satisfy their fans, they need to improve the quality first!

Others

Sub frames

Plastic pipe from Inter Cooler to Turbo charger is exposed. and I think this line need to be covered with a panel.

Suspension type

Mcpherson strut type : Front

Bar-type suspension : Rear

Rear suspension type is same with Hyundai Elatra, but Veloster is reinforced inside the tortion bar with the stabilizer beam. So Veloster has better stiffness than Elantra.

Rear damper and springs

You will know that the damper and spring have a very short stroke by looking it. Although the stock suspension is harder than Hyundai sedan, I recommend you Hyundai TUIX's dynamic package (800$).

We have reviewed the interior and under parts of Veloster and next time, we will test actual performance of Veloster.
